OHSBCA Coaches Clinic
<\/strong>Welcome everyone to the 2025-26 basketball season. As we begin the start of practice, I want to give you an update on the many topics that the OHSBCA has plans for the coaches of Ohio. To begin, the MaxPrep Rating system will remain the same for this season. The OHSBCA will continue to monitor and make necessary tweaks if needed at the end of the season.

The OHSBCA will again be hosting a Shot Clock Shootout over the Holiday break at the Canton Field House. We have expanded the shot clock to other events held over the Martin Luther King Weekend for organizers who haverequested to use it. We are looking forward feedback and gather data for the OHSAA.

The OHSBCA and 28.5 have combined to host an All-Female Showcase (girls\u2019 teams, women coaches, and women officials at Big Walnut High School on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The State Tournament will return to the Final Four format and will be hosted in the Dayton Area. The Girls tournament will be played over a three-day period (March 12 -14) and the Boys tournament will be played over a four-day period (March 19 \u2013 22). All Finals will be played at University of Dayton Arena. More details will be available once the schedule is finalized.

We will again hold the North-South game at Olentangy Liberty High School on Friday, April 24, 2026 and the Hall of Fame Banquet at the Columbus Marriott OSU on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

The Midwest Live Events will again be held at Cedar Point Sports Complex. The Girls event has been pushed back a week later to Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20, 2026. The Boys event will continued to held the same weekend Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28, 2026.

It\u2019s an honor to lead the OHSBCA for the next three years. There are some major changes on the horizon, the Shot Clock and High School NIL is about to reshape basketball in Ohio\u2014but we\u2019ll navigate them together.

I\u2019ve been attending as many district meetings as possible and plan to visit games across the state this season. My goal is to be a leader who\u2019s involved, approachable, and truly represents all of you.

Rule Changes for 2025-26
<\/strong>The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association has revisited the rating system being use with Max Preps. The OHSBCA agree that the RPI Formula that we have been using was transparent and easy to calculate. These factors were very important to the coaches and the directors decided to remain with the same RPI Formula that was used last season. The three components of the formula will consist of Percentages for RPI, Points of Classifications, and Out of State Points.

First component is the Percentages for the RPI. The Percentages for RPI is based on WP (Winning Percentage), OWP (Opponents Winning Percentage), and OOWP (Opponents Opponents Winning Percentage). The formula will be 40%WP x 40%OWP x 20% OOWP.

The second component will be Points of Classification. Division 1 – 2 points, Division 2 – 1.85 points, Division 3 – 1.70, Division 4 – 1.55, Division 5 – 1.40, Division 6, 1.25, and Division 7 – 1.10.

The third component is based on out-state opponents. The point value of 1.55 points will be awarded.

The OHSBCA and coaches will be monitoring the effects of these components to the rating system and will re-evaluate at the end of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New District Directors

District 8 Director – Todd Boblitt, Bluffton<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Todd has spent his entire coaching career at Bluffton High School, leading the boys\u2019 basketball program for the past 20 years. During that time, he has compiled a 242\u2013196 record, guiding his teams to one league title and six sectional championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

District 8 Director – Todd Boblitt, Bluffton<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Rodney<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Rodney has been a varsity head coach for 13 years, spending his first seven seasons at Cardington and the last six at River Valley. He has an overall record of 170\u2013138. His teams have won two league titles, five sectional championships, and one district championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

District 13 Director – Heath McKinnis, Oak Hill<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heath has served as a varsity head coach for 10 years. He spent two seasons coaching the girls\u2019 team at Jackson High School, followed by two seasons with the boys\u2019 team. For the past six years, he has led the Oak Hill boys\u2019 basketball program. Heath holds a career coaching record of 71\u2013130.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Girls 10\/11 Director – Carey Largent, Big Walnut<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carey has served as the head girls\u2019 basketball coach at Big Walnut High School for the past four years, compiling an impressive overall record of 61-15. Under her leadership, the program has secured an OCC championship, a district title, and a regional championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hooplines
<\/strong>Monthly newsletters from September through April will be published and sent to all active members with a valid email address. The information will be short and concide to keep you updated on the latest happening of Ohio basketball.

Hooplines will be published twice a year. The Year in Review will be released in January which contains the rich history of the OHSBCA. The Spring Edition will be issued in May, highlighting all of the award winners that the OHSBCA honors for the past basketball season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nominations for OHSBCA Hall of Fame
<\/strong>Any coach can nominate a worthy candidate for the OHSBCA Hall of Fame. From time to time, questions are raised why coach so and so is not in the Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame. Sometimes it is just a simple fact that the coach has not been nominated for this honor.

Golf Outing
<\/strong>The OHSBCA will be hosting a golf outing on Saturday. September 13, 2025 at the Delaware Golf Club. This golf outing is the day before our annual clinic and we will have a shotgun start at 1:30 PM. So plan on bringing your staff down a day early for a round of golf. After the round, a meal will be provided. We will only be accepting the first 32 teams so please make sure to register your team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Midwest Live Recap 2025
<\/strong>The OHSBCA finished the 4th Annual Boys Midwest Live Event this past June. With the change in the NCAA recruiting calendar, the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan join forces to hold a team event during the live recruiting period.

Midwest Live was a NFHS certified scholastic recruiting event held that was held June 27th- 29th at the Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio. The teams played 4 games in a two-day format (Friday\/Saturday or Saturday\/Sunday).

There were 142 High Schools from Ohio (96 Schools), Michigan (35 Schools), Indiana (6 Schools), Pennsylvania (2 School) and West Virginia (3 Schools) that participated in the two-day event. There was a total of 228 college coaches from 144 schools represented at the showcase.

The purpose of this event was to showcase some of the best underclassmen talent the States of Ohio and Michigan have to offer. This was a college exposure event for student-athletes who have a goal of playing basketball at the next level and earning a scholarship. This event was held during the prime NCAA evaluation period for college recruiters.

The OHSBCA also held the 3rd Annual Girls Midwest Live Event a two weeks prior to the Boys (June 13th & 14th) at the Cedar Point Sports Center. Each team played two games per day for a total of four games.

There were 106 High Schools from Ohio (102 Schools), Pennsylvania (2 Schools) and West Virginia (2 Schools) that competed in the two-day event. There was a total of 97 college coaches from 67 schools represented at the showcase.

Plans for the 2026 Midwest Live Event are in the works. The Girls two-day event will be held June 19 – 20, 2026 and the Boys three-day event will be held June 26 – June 28, 2026.
