PAUL WALKER AWARD GOES TO ED ZINK
<\/strong>The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association is proud to announce that Ed Zink of Beavercreek High School is the recipient of the 2020 Paul Walker Award. The Paul Walker Award is presented annually by the OHSBCA to an active coaching member of the association who has made significant contributions to high school basketball. The award is named in honor of the late Paul Walker, the longtime coach of Middletown High School. At the time of his retirement, he had the most wins as a boys\u2019 basketball coach in Ohio High School Basketball History.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ED ZINK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ed was born and raised in Beavercreek, Ohio. While in high school he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated from Beavercreek in 1970 and was inducted into Beavercreek\u2019s first \u201cHall of Fame\u201d in 2000.

After graduating from high school, Coach Zink attended the University of Dayton on a football scholarship. His senior year he was named M.V.P. of the football team and was also named, \u201cFlyer of the Year.\u201d Ed graduated in 1974.

Ed taught business education and physical education in the Beavercreek City School District for 29 years and was the Athletic Director at Beavercreek High School for 7 years before retiring in 2011. Ed has 44 years of coaching experience. He has coached football, girls\u2019 basketball, and softball. He still continues to coach the girls\u2019 basketball team at Beavercreek High School.

Ed has a career record of 785 wins and 253 losses. At one point in his career, his team won 110 consecutive league games. He was named AP Coach of the Year in 1988, UPI Coach of the Year in 1989 and has been named the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association\u2019s Coach of the Year of the year three times (1989, 1994, and 2001). He has been selected District 15 Coach of the Year 8 times and W.O.L. Coach of the Year 9 times. Ed was inducted into the Ohio Girls Basketball Magazine\u2019s Hall of Fame in 2000 and was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in May of 2012, along with his 3 State Championship Teams. His teams have won 21 League, 21 Sectional, and 18 District Championships, along with 6 Regional Championships and 3 State Championships in 1995, 2001, & 2003.

Ed has been married for 42 years to his lovely wife Nanci.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OHSAA and OHSBCA Announce Partnership Extension with Rawlings as
the Official Basketball for the State of Ohio
<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

COLUMBUS, Ohio \u2013 The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association (OHSBCA) have announced a three-year partnership extension with Rawlings to continue serving as the official basketball of both associations. The Rawlings basketball will remain the exclusive basketball used in all OHSAA tournament contests, while the coaches association strongly recommends it to be used during the regular-season, as well.

Rawlings has been the official tournament basketball of the OHSAA since 1999.

\u201cThe Rawlings basketballs were the clear favorite when we surveyed the coaches across Ohio,\u201d said Kathleen Coughlin, Director of Sport Management for the OHSAA and the Association\u2019s basketball administrator. \u201cThe coaches had several options and they chose the Rawlings basketball. It is a privilege to make this announcement alongside the OHSBCA and continue working with such a great company like Rawlings.\u201d

The partnership with Rawlings goes through the end of the 2023 season. The official models are the COMPOHIOCB for high school boys and the COMPOHIO285CB for high school girls.

\u201cWe have enjoyed and appreciated the collaboration with the OHSAA on this contract process,\u201d said Tom Barrick, Executive Director of the OHSBCA. \u201cThis is a win-win for high school basketball in Ohio. Rawlings not only makes superior basketballs, but they are excited about being further invested in Ohio basketball. The vast majority of our coaches across Ohio voted in favor of the Rawlings basketballs and we are excited to continue this partnership into the future.\u201d

Rawlings also makes the official softball and baseball of the OHSAA tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OHSBCA FORMS<\/strong>
The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association has posted its form on the new website (oh.nhsbca.org<\/strong><\/em>). The new website will allow the applicant to upload required documents and require photos.

We are in the process of converting all of the forms for our awards, nominations and applications to be housed in the new website. No more worry about mailing or emailing your nomination or application forms. You will be able to save the cost of a stamp or sending an email that gets lost in cyber space.

The available forms are Academic All-Ohio, Academic Teams, Boys Assistant Coach of the Year, Boys Coach of the Year, Boys Player of the Year, Coaches Scholarship, Girls Assistant Coach of the Year, Girls Coach of the Year, Girls Player of the Year, the Top 20 Shooting Awards (2FG, 3FT, FT) – Individual and Team, Scholarship Society, Boys Showcase, Century Award, Bob Arnzen Award, and Hall of Fame Nomination.

To access the forms, go to the OHSBCA website (oh.nhsbca.org<\/strong><\/em>) and click on the FORMS link in the upper right hand corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STATE MEMBERSHIP TOTAL
<\/strong>The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association is proud to announce that 3,609<\/strong> Basketball Coaches, across the state of Ohio, have joined the OHSBCA for the 2019-20 basketball season. This is a decrease of 84 members from last year\u2019s total of 3,693. We fell short of the 4,000+ mark once again, but the Association continues to increase the many benefits offered to its membership. Congratulations to all of the Basketball Coaches who have joined the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association.

Once again, Congratulations to the \u201cGreat 8\u201d – District 8 for having the largest membership total among all of the districts with 463 members. District 8 continues to hold the crown of most membership for 25+ years. District 13 was runner-ups again with 408 members and is closing in on District 8. District 5 had the biggest jumped in membership from last year by adding 34 coaches and District 15 added 20 coaches each. Eight other districts, District 1, District 3, District 6, District 9, District 10, District 13 and District 15, increased their totals over last year. Great Job!!

We thank you for joining our Coaches Association and encourage everyone to become an active participant in our organization. Hopefully, we will meet all your needs as a coach, and if there is anything that our Association can do for you, please contact your District Director. He is there to serve you.

BOB ARNZEN AWARD WINNERS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bob Arznen Award was named after the legendary boys coach at Delphos St. John\u2019s High School. Coach Arznen spent 43 years as the Head Coach and was the second winningest coach at the time of his retirement nad now sixth in the history of Ohio High School Basketball with 676 wins and only 291 losses. Bob was inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1995.

The Bob Arnzen Award is given to those basketball coaches who have devoted 20 consecutive years or more service to the same school and for their loyalty and commitment to Ohio High School basketball. The honorees will be presented their plaques during the games on Championship Saturday of their respective tournaments.

FUTURE ELECTIONS<\/strong>
In 2020, the following positions are to be elected:

1. Even Number Districts Directors (3-year term)
2. Girls District Directors of Districts 2 & 3, District 6 & 7, Districts 5 & 12, and Districts 15 & 16 (3-year term)

For these ALL POSITIONS, the candidate must be a member of the OHSBCA. Election Procedures can be found on Page 17 of the January 2020 Constitutional Issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BOYS \/ GIRLS SENIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR<\/strong>
Each year the OHSBCA selects a Player of the Year in each division of Boys Basketball. The 2019-20 season enters the 36th year the OHSBCA has been selecting the Player of the Year. The procedures for the selection of the Player of the Year is as follows:
1. Must be a Senior
2. Must be nominated by a state member
3. Must play in the North-South Game
4. Directors will vote on the Players
5. Nominees come from each State OHSBCA District
Boys and Girls Players in each division will be presented a plaque at their respective North-South All-Star Gam on Friday, April 24, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MR & MS OHSBCA<\/strong>
The procedure for selecting MR and MS OHSBCA is that the player must be nominated by a District Director. The player can be a senior or an underclassman. If the player is an underclassman, a nomination form must be submitted. The District Director will nominate the candidates and then vote to determine a winner.

The winner of MR OHSBCA or MS OHSBCA honor will be presented a trophy at the respective North-South All-Star Game that will be held on Friday, April 24, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BOYS SHOWCASE<\/strong>
This year will mark the second OHSBCA D1 Recruiting Event presented by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association in conjunction with the Ohio High School Athletic Association. The event will be held during the new NCAA Division I Recruiting Period in June. On Saturday, June 27, 2020 the top players from Ohio will assemble at Capital University in Columbus to participate in this day-long evaluation event.

Nomination are NOW be accepted for the OHSBCA D1 Recruiting Event. To access the nomination form, go to the OHSBCA website (oh.nhsbca.org), click on FORMS. Select Showcase Nomination. Complete the nomination form and submit. DEADLINE for nominiations is March 1, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GIRLS SHOWCASE<\/strong>
After lengthy discussions with showcase personnel and receiving feedback from girls district directors and the executive board, the Girls Showcase will be suspended for this year, 2020. We will not be taking nominations for the girls showcase this year.

We will revisit the showcase next year with hopes that the NCAA will rearrange their recruiting calendar to better support scholastic events as they did with the boys calendar.

We are always open to suggestions and ideas on how we can reinvent the Girls Showcase to make it a positive event in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BOYS \/ GIRLS COACH OF THE YEAR<\/strong>
Each year the OHSBCA selects a Coach of the Year in each division of Boys and Girls Basketball. The 2019-20 season enters the 36th year the OHSBCA has been selecting the Coach of the Year. The procedures for the selection of the Coach of the Year is as follows:
1. Must be a member of the OHSBCA
2. Must be nominated by a District Director
3. Committee will review all candidates and make a recommendation to the District Directors in each division for Coach of the Year.
4. District Directors will vote to approve the recommendation for Coach of the Year in each division.

The winning coach in each division will be presented a plaque at their respective North-South All-Star Game on Friday, April 24, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ASSISTANT COACH OF THE YEAR<\/strong>
For the 18th year, the OHSBCA will select the Assistant Coaches of the Year to represent the State Association. The procedure to be followed each year is that one Assistant Coach for Boys and one Assistant Coach for Girls will be chosen for each of the 16 districts in the Association. Each representative must be a member of the OHSBCA. Each of the winners will advance as a state finalist to the OHSBCA March meeting. At the March meeting, the OHSBCA District Directors will then vote and select the Boys Assistant Coach of the Year and the Girls Assistant Coach of the Year.

Local winners will receive a plaque at the District\u2019s Local Meeting. The State Winners will be presented their plaques at the their respective North-South Game – Boys at Olentangy Liberty High School and Girls at Denison University on Friday, April 24, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SCHOLARSHIP SOCIETY<\/strong>
The OHSBCA has established the Scholarship Society to recognize Student Athletes for scholastic excellence. The Gold and Silver Certificates will be award to Seniors and Juniors who meet the criteria for the award. We want to give recognition to all Junior and Seniors who display high marks in academics, citizenship, and sportsmanship. All Juniors must have a 3.2 Grade Point Average for Five Semesters and Seniors must have a 3.2 Grade Point Average for Seven Semesters.

These athletes will able to list this honor on College Entrance papers, year books, job applications, etc. This is a significant award as it comes from the Basketball Coaches of the State of Ohio. The recipients receive a Silver Certificate if they are a Junior and Gold Certificate if they are a Senior. Their names will be listed in the Spring Edition of the Hooplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACADEMIC TEAM<\/strong>
The 2019-20 basketball season will be the 17th year consecutive year that the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association will recognize basketball teams for their excellence in the classroom. Again this season the OHSBCA will be honoring the top 5 girls teams and top 5 boys teams who report the highest team GPA. In a continuous effort to reward the student-athletes for their efforts in the classroom, the OHSBCA will honor the entire team for their academic excellence.

Academic Team Award Winners<\/strong>
Criteria:<\/strong>
1. Complete the nomination form using the GPA\u2019s of the top nine varsity letterman.
2. All GPA\u2019s must be converted to a 4.00 grading scale. (If your school will not convert to a 4.0 GPA, you are ineligible for the award.)
3. All GPA\u2019s must be carried out to two decimal places (eg. 3.95)
4. GPA\u2019s are only for the First Semester of the 2019-20 school year. (Not cumulative GPA\u2019s.)
Award:<\/strong>
1. The OHSBCA in conjunction with the Ohio Army National Guard will provide a plaque that can be displayed at the school to commemorate the team\u2019s academic success.
2. Winners will receive $100 pizza party compliments of the Ohio Army National Guard.
3. Winners will receive recognition in May Issue of Hooplines. (OHSBCA Newsletter)
Special Instructions:<\/strong>
The Ohio Army National Guard will present a plaque to the winner at a mutually agreed time.

Winning team is required to take a picture at their pizza party and send to the Academic Chairman, Adam Hall. Teams failing to turn in pictures will not be recognized in the May issue of Hooplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACADEMIC ALL-OHIO<\/strong>
Each year a committee of the OHSBCA selects its \u201cAcademic All Ohio Team\u201d for the school year. Ten Boys and ten Girls are selected for each of the four divisions. 2019-20 will mark the twenty-seventh year that the association has chosen \u201cAll Ohio Academic Teams.\u201d

The players are selected for this honor based on their academic excellence and their athletic contributions to their basketball teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COACHES SCHOLARSHIP<\/strong>
The OHSBCA Awards Fifteen $1,000 Scholarships each summer to the sons and daughters of active members of the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association. One of the parents of the applicant must have been an active coach in the OHSBCA for the last five consecutive years.

Each recipient will receive a plaque courtesy of the Ohio Army National Guard and a check for $1,000 at the North-South Game on Friday, April 24, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TOP 20 STATISTICAL AWARDS – INDIVIDUAL & TEAM<\/strong>
This will be the 23rd year that the association has honored teams and individuals with the Best Free Throw, Two Point Field Goal and Three Point Field Goal Percentages. Certificates will be awarded to the \u201cTop 20\u201d Individual in Boys and Girls Free Throw, 2 Point Field Goals, and 3 Point Field Goals Shooting. All teams, individuals and coaches will be listed in the May Issue of Hooplines. Because of the success of this award the association now requires a form to be completed online by the head coach.

INDIVIDUAL TOP 20 RULES:<\/strong>
Free Throws<\/strong> – Players must have attempted at least 60 Free Throws during the regular 22 game season. Top 20 in Shooting Percentage will be honored.

Two Point Field Goal Shooting<\/strong> – Players must have attempted at least 110 Two Point Field Goals during the regular 22 game season. Top 20 in shooting percentage will be honored.

Three Point Field Goal Shooting<\/strong> – Players must have attempted at least 60 Three Point Shots during the regular 22 game season. Top 20 in Shooting Percentage will be honored.

TEAM TOP 20 RULES:<\/strong>
Team Free Throws, Two Point Field Goal Shooting and Three Point Field Goal Shooting will be based on the Top 20 Shooting Percentage for the regular 22 game season.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
