North-South Game Coaches Announced
<\/strong>Greg Nossaman, Boys North-South Game Director, and Adam Priefer, Girls North-South Game Director, announced the North-South Game Coaches. To be a nominee to coach in the North-South Game, a coach must be an OHSBCA member, must be nominated by a District Director, and coached in the 2022 District Finals.

The Coaches are Terry Sites of Tuscarawas Valley, Bobby James of Huron, Kevin Darthard of Linden McKinley, Travis Wise of South Point, Natalie Lantz of Shelby, Rick Geiser of Waynedale, Donald Dennis of Bishop Hartley, and Joe Richards of Trimble.

Terry Sites
Tuscarawas Valley HS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terry Sites is currently the head boys basketball coach at Tuscarawas Valley High School. In six years as a head coach, he has compiled a record of 83-64. His teams have won one league title and three sectional championships in his six years as a head coach. He has been named district coach of the year twice and league coach of the year once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natalie Lantz
Shelby High School<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natalie Lantz of Shelby High School has served as the head girls basketball coach for the past 11 years. Her career record as a head coach is 199-67. Her teams have won seven league championships, nine sectional championships, and one district championship. Her 2021-2022 team finished with a record of 27-1, which is the most wins in school history. She has received numerous coaching honors including being named the 2022 OHSBCA Division II Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huron High School
<\/strong>In 14 years as a head coach at Huron High School, Bobby James has a record of 213-104. His teams have won 4 league championships, nine sectional championships, and three district championships. He has been named district coach of the year twice in his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Girls South Coach<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rick Geiser
Waynedale High School<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coach Rick Geiser has spent the last five years as the head girls basketball coach at Waynedale. In five years, he has amassed a record of 111-21. His teams have won three conference titles, five sectional championships, two district championships, and have been to the state tournament twice during his five years. He has been named league coach of the year three times, district coach of the year twice, and in 2022 he was named OHSBCA Division III Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travis Wise
South Point High School<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In nine seasons as a head coach at South Point, Travis Wise has compiled a record of 113-103. His teams have won one league championship, five sectional championships, and been district runners-up twice. This season, he was named the OVC and district coach of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Girls South Coach<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Dennis
Bishop Hartley HS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donald Dennis has been a head coach for 10 years, the last 8 have been spent at Hartley. In 10 years as a head coach, he has an overall record of 125-121. His teams have won two league championships, two district championships, and one regional championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kevin Darthard, Jr
Linden McKinley HS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kevin Darthard has a career record of 65-42 in five years as a head coach at Linden-McKinley. In 2020 his team was City League North Champions and in 2022 his team won the district championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joe Richards
Trimble High School<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trimble head girls basketball coach Joe Richards has a career record of 96-81 during his 8 year run at Trimble. His teams have won three league championships, three sectional championships, and one district championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OHSBCA North-South All-Star Game
<\/strong>The OHSBCA featured event is the Ohio North-South All-Star Game. The Boys have been playing this event since 1958 and the Girls since 1981. The top players and coaches in the state participate in this annual event.

The player selection is done by the following procedure: The State is divided into 16 Districts, eight southern and eight northern. One player and alternate are selected from each district \u2013 One Player from Division I & II \/ One Player from Division III & IV. District must designate the First Player and Second Player. Voting is done at the Local level with each school receiving the number of votes as they have state members in the Association. Twelve players will be select for the North and Twelve players will be select for the South \u2013 (1) Each District will have their First Selection represent their District in N-S Game, (2) All Player of the Year will receive automatic selection to the N-S Game, (3) If a District has a Player of the Year, the Second Selection receive automatic selection to the N-S Game, (4) If the First Selection is unable to play in the N-S Game, the Second Selection from that District receives the automatic selection to the N-S Game.

District Directors from the North will select the North coaches and District Directors from the South will select the South coaches. Nominees can come from all districts. Coaches must be an OHSBCA Member and coached in the District Finals in the previous season. Two (2) Coaches from the North District (District 1 \u2013 8) will be selected to coach the N-S Game for the North. One coach is from Division I & II and one coach is from Division III & IV. Two (2) Coaches from the South District (District 9 \u2013 16) will be selected to coach the N-S Game for the South. One coach is from Division I & II and one coach is from Division III & IV.

The rules for the Ohio North-South All-Star Games are: (1) Two 20-minute halves and a shot clock, (2) 10-minute halftime, (3) Players can foul out (5 fouls), (4) Coaches sub every 5 minutes in the first half, (5) Everyone plays in second half, (6) Coach to win, (7) Half Court Defense is all man-to-man, (8) Full court defense is anything you want to do.

The games will be played on Friday, April 28, 2023, with the Girls game starting at 6:30 pm followed by the Boys game at 8:15 pm. The games will compete at Olentangy Liberty High School.

OHSBCA Hall of Fame Banquet
<\/strong>The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association (OHSBCA) is proud to announce the coaches and date for the Hall of Fame Class for 2023. This year, the association is inducting four coaches into the Hall of Fame. The four high school coaches being inducted are Marty Hill of Windham, Bob Krizancic of Mentor, Joe Staley of Chaminade-Julienne, and Ed Zink of Beavercreek.

The Induction Ceremony for the Thirty-Fifth Class will be at the Columbus Marriott University Area at 3100 Olentangy River Road in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 5:30 PM.

John Wooden Legacy Award Winners
<\/strong>The Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association (OHSBCA) would like to announce the recipients of the John Wooden Legacy Award for the 2022 year. This year Harold \u201cDoc\u201d Daugherty, former head boys\u2019 basketball coach at Euclid High School and Karen Wittrock, former head girls\u2019 basketball coach at Lutheran West High School are the recipients of the award. Both recipients were honored at half time of Saturday\u2019s semi-final game at their respected state tournaments.

Harold \u201cDoc\u201d Daugherty spent 40 years as the head boys\u2019 basketball coach at Euclid High School in northeast Ohio. He taught health and physical education for 44 years while serving the community in numerous leadership roles. Along with his many accomplishments on the court, he served the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association as president from 1984-86 as well as chairman of the Gold and Silver Certificate committee which recognizes student\/athletes for their excellences in the classroom.

During Doc\u2019s 40-year coaching career he amassed a record of 597 wins and 284 losses. He won an amazing 28 sectional championships, four district championships, one regional championship, one regional runner-up, and one state semifinalists in 1968. He was named Division I Coach of the Year in 1990. He also served as a coach in the following All-Star Games: Ohio-Michigan, Ohio-Kentucky, Ohio-West Virginia, and Ohio North-South along with many other All-Star games in the Cleveland area. All this coaching accolades helped him earn induction into several hall of fames. Doc was inducted in the National Coaches\u2019 Hall of Fame in 2000, the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in the Spring of 2010. In 2005 Coach Daugherty accomplished one of his greatest feats when he was co-founding the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame. This elite hall of fame preserves basketball legacies, celebrates greatness and honors excellences.

Karen Wittrock taught physical education, and math for 45 years at Lutheran West High School in Rocky River, OH. She coached girls\u2019 basketball for 41 of those years while serving as the co-director of the intramural program for 38 years. As Lutheran West\u2019s head coach, she amassed a coaching record of 628 wins and 198 loses. Her teams captured 22 sectional championships, seven district championships, one regional championship and finished state-runner-up in 1976.

She has been honored to coach for the Ohio North-South All-Star Game, Greater Cleveland Basketball Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game and was chosen as Ohio Coach of the Year for four years and Conference Coach of the Year 21-times.

Some of her other honors and awards include receiving the Cleveland SMACO Award (Basketball), the Bob Arnzen Award, the National Outstanding Coach of the Year Award given by the National Women\u2019s Sports Foundation, the Northeast District Naismith Basketball Service Award, the Outstanding Basketball Coach and Sportsmanship Award, inductee into the inaugural class of the Lutheran West High School Athletic Hall of Fame, inductee into the Women\u2019s Basketball Magazine Hall of Fame, inductee into the Concordia University Sports Hall of Fame, and inductee into the inaugural class of the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2015, she was also inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Future Elections
<\/strong>In 2023, the following positions are to be elected:
1. Treasurer (4-year term)
2. Even Number Districts Directors (3-year term)
3. Girls District Directors of Districts 2 & 3, District 5 & 12, Districts 6 & 7, and Districts 15 & 16 (3-year term)

Qualifications for these POSITIONS is that the candidate must be a member of the OHSBCA. Candidates for all these positions must send a letter of intent to the President of the OHSBCA stating the position in which they will be a candidate for by July 1st. Election Procedures can be found on Page 17 of the January 2023 Constitutional Issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Midwest Live Scholastic Event
<\/strong>Once again, the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association will be hosting a Midwest Live Scholastic Event. This year we are adding a Girls team event. These events will be held during the NCAA Division I Recruiting Period in June. The Girls event will be held on June 16 & 17 and the Boys event will be played on June 23-25. The top Girls and Boys players and teams will assemble at Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio to participate in this summer tournament.
