Jerry Sigler<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jerry Sigler (Eastwood High School Class of 1963) is a \u201970 (BS) and \u201874(M Ed) graduate of Bowling Green State University. Sigler taught elementary physical education in Sylvania Schools for thirty-one years (1970-2001). He began his coaching career at Sylvania High School in 1975 as the JV Girls\u2019 Basketball Coach. The following year, after Sylvania split into two high schools, he became the Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Northview, a position he held for thirty-seven years. When Jerry retired from coaching, his overall record was 675 wins and 177 losses. He finished his career as the third winningest coach in the history of Ohio Girls\u2019 Basketball. Sigler\u2019s LadyKats won 18 League Titles (9 G.L.L. and 9 N.L.L.), 28 Sectional Championships, seven District Championships and three Regional Championships with trips to State Final Four in \u201979, \u201904 and \u201905. Three of his teams had undefeated regular seasons (\u201978-\u201979, \u201997-\u201998, \u201903-\u201904). Jerry is most proud of the fact that every one of his thirty-eight teams had a winning season! His teams averaged 18 wins per season over the 37 years as Varsity Coach. Sigler\u2019s coaching honors include 2014 Recipient of the Naismith Meritorious Service Award from the OHSAA (this honor entitles him to Lifetime Membership in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame), 2013 OHSAA Nominee for the National Federation of State High School Associations\u2019 Coach of the Year, the prestigious OHSBCA \u201cPaul Walker Award\u201d in 2007 and OHSAA \u201cSportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award\u201d in 2005. He was the 2004 and 1998 OHSBCA Division I Coach of the Year, the 2004 and 1979 Associated Press Ohio Coach of the Year, 2000 Ohio-West Virginia All-Star Game Coach, 1998 Ohio-Indiana All-Star Game Coach, 1993 North\/South Ohio All-Star Game Coach, 1987 Lucas County All-Star Game Coach and six times the District 7 All-Star Game Coach. He was named the District 7 Division I Coach of the Year eight times. Sigler was President of District 7 Basketball Association from 1998 through 2002. He also served on the OHSBCA Girls\u2019 Advisory Board 2004 \u2013 2008. He has co-directed the Ohio Girls\u2019 Top 100 from 2009 through the present. Besides coaching basketball, Sigler spent 14 years as the Head Softball Coach at Northview with an overall record of 226 \u2013 100. His teams won six league titles, eight Sectional Championships, three District Championships and one Regional Championship. Five times (four G.L.L. and one N.L.L.) he was named League Coach of the Year. Sigler was a 2014 Inductee into the Sylvania Schools Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame. The basketball floor at Sylvania Northview High School has been named \u201cJerry Sigler Court\u201d. Jerry and his wife, Karen, have two children [Jerry, Jr. and Gretchen (Aaron) Bobroff] and seven grandchildren (Allison, JP, Morgan and Brandon Sigler and Ainslie, Shelby and Dugan Bobroff). Jerry is extremely honored to be included in the OHSBCA\u2019s Hall of Fame with the best Basketball Coaches in the history of the game in Ohio. He is also tremendously gratified with the life-long friendships and memories he has established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
