HANK MORUS OF FRONTIER<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Coach Morus spent 31 years in high school coaching, beginning in August, Missouri (1950-55), Newport (1955-68), and Frontier (1968-81). His success is apparent with his teams’ collective winning record of 62.3%, based on 409 wins and 247 losses. His teams won 11 league titles in 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1974, 1976, 1980, and 1981. They won seven sectionals (1956, 1960, 1969, 1970, 1973, 1980, and 1981). IN 1969 his players were district champs, and his 1979 and 1981 teams took the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference titles. Hank won honors as league Coach of the Year in 1957, 1960, 1969, 1971, 1974, and 1981. In 1974 he was named Coach of the Year in District 12 and Eastern District Coach of the Year in 1969 and 1981. Also in 1981, he coached the Ohio Valley Conference All-Stars. The OHSBCA awarded him an Honorary Membership in 1983. In addition to coaching boys basketball, Hank served as Athletic Director at Newport from 1960-67 and at Frontier from 1968-81. While at Augusta, he was head girls basketball coach, with a record of 79 wins and 29 losses, playing their games as a preliminary to the boys games. At Newport, he also served as head baseball coach for 12 years, posting 97 wins and 57 losses. During that time, the baseball teams won four league, three sectional, and one district title, and in 1964 advanced to the regional finals. Morus graduated from high school in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and Salem College in West Virginia. In college, he was named Outstanding Senior Athlete in basketball and baseball, serving as co-captain and captain, respectively. Now a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the American Legion, Hank was married to Genevieve in 1951 and they have on son, Gregory. His skill as a coach has rubbed on his son, who is now coaching at Frontier. In his ninth season, Greg has won over 100 games and his teams set a school record with an undefeated regular season of 20-0, and 22-1 overall. Golfing evidently agrees with Coach Hank Morus as he has recorded seven holes-in-ones, with two coming in a nine-hole outing in 1966!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
