CLAIR MUSCARO OF OHSAA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Muscaro graduated from Weir High School in Weirton, West Virginia in 1950. He was a member of the Weir basketball team and was awarded a college scholarship. Clair played basketball at the West Virginia Institute of Technology (W.Va. Tech) from 1950-1954. He was a four year letterman and a three year starter on the teams that won four consecutive W. Va. Intercollegiate Conference Championships. Clair was also named to the All-Conference and the All-Tournament team. Mr. Muscaro is a member of the college\u2019s Athletic Hall of Fame with a career high of 55 points in one game. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree there in 1954. After graduating from college, he served two years in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Camp Chaffee, Arkansas basket ball team that won the All-Army World Championship in 1956. A teammate was Boston Celtics, legend, Sam Jones. After several years as a teacher, coach and administrator and also earning his Master\u2019s Degree at Kent State University in 1959, he began his work with the OHSAA. He was chosen as an Assistant Commissioner of the Ohio High School Athletic Association in August of 1984. He was appointed the Eighth Commissioner of the OHSAA on January 1, 1990 where he served until his retirement on August 1, 2004. Some accomplishments under his leadership were: 1) the establishment of a scholarship program which awards over $100,000.00 annually to scholar-athletes; this program has awarded over $1,000,000 since its inception; 2) the establishment of the OHSAA Foundation which sponsors Student Leadership Conference Scholarships: 3) the establishment of a sportsmanship and awards program which is recognized as one of the finest in the country; 4) the elimination of tournament entry fees and catastrophe insurance fees for schools; 5) the completion of extensive reviews of the OHSAA Constitution and Bylaws. Clair and his wife, Margaret Ann, have been married for 53 years. They have two children. Daughter Kathy (Joe) Klamut is a speech pathologist while son David (Rhonda) Muscaro is a GM Assistant Chief Engineer. They also have two grandchildren, Moriah and Aaron Muscaro, ages 14 and 10 respectively. Mr. Muscaro\u2019s 48 years of work in education are best characterized by his Christian values and actions of treating others fairly and with respect, being consistent in his decisions and keeping the welfare of students paramount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
