BOB WALSH OF ELYRIA SENIOR<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Coach Walsh graduated from North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1955 and St. Francis College in Loretta, Pennsylvania in 1959.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bob Walsh is one of the five boys’ basketball coaches in Ohio to achieve over 600 victories. In his illustrious career he has coached at Clearview, Oberlin, Vermilion, Elyria Catholic and Elyria High Schools. He had winning seasons at each school. Bob’s recorded as a head coach spans 40 years and he has won 68% of his games. He has belonged to the OHSBCA for 47 years and served as District 3 Director of that organization for 19 years. When Bob started in coaching he was junior high football and track coach and high school assistant football coach until he turned his efforts to basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bob’s teams have won 22 sectionals, 10 district and had 5 regional appearances. His teams have won two State Championships, in 1974 at Clearview and 1986 at Oberlin. Coach Walsh’s individual achievements and award include: The Paul Walker Award (1996), Associated Press Coach of the Year (1987 and 1995), North-South All-Star Game Coach (1973), Ohio-Michigan All-Star Game Coach (1992), Bob Arnzen Longevity Award (Clearview – 23 years), 14-times Lorain County Coach of the Year, 20-times League Coach of the Year, Seven County-wide Coach of the Year (2002), National Federation of High School Coaches Coach of the Year (2004), and Lorain County Coach of the Year (2006). Bob has been very active in the OHSBCA and was co-founder of the Lorain County’s Boys Basketball Coaches Association – serving as president four times and secretary three times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bob has been married to Maureen for 45 years. Their children are R. Michael Walsh and Christen Piedmont. Bob and Maureen have three grandchildren: Michael (11) and Mickenzie  Piedmont (7) and Ryan Walsh (1 1\/2). Bo was a member of the Sheffield Lions Club and also the Knight’s of Columbus #637 for over 45 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bob’s philosophy of coaching in that to have success you must have complete team effort from the bottom to the top of your team and every player must understand his role. To have success you must be surrounded by good assistant coaches and give them responsibility in the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
